The origins of QEC

A search for another way to support meaningful change.

Quantum Energy Coaching was created by Dr Melanie Salmon, a South African-trained medical doctor, Gestalt psychotherapist, and former national TRE trainer. It grew from her experience across these different fields and her desire to develop a more integrated approach to emotional wellbeing.

The creator

Dr Melanie Salmon

Dr Salmon spent around four decades working as a doctor, including many years in general practice near London. She became increasingly interested in why some psycho-emotional difficulties were not fully addressed by medication alone and began looking beyond her original medical training.

She studied Gestalt in the UK and the United States, graduated from the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, and worked for 15 years as a Gestalt psychotherapist. She later spent eight years as South Africa's national trainer in Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE).

    A broader search

    Medicine, psychotherapy, and trauma work

Dr Salmon's experience in medicine, Gestalt psychotherapy, and TRE shaped a continuing search for an approach that brought the mind, body, and the therapeutic relationship together.

  2. 2005

    A turning point

    Focusing on the mind-body connection

Dr Salmon describes a significant personal experience in 2005 as the point that redirected her work. She began concentrating more closely on the role of the mind in the way people experience and respond to long-held patterns.

  3. 2008

    QEC takes shape

    Quantum Energy Coaching is developed

By 2008, these influences had come together as Quantum Energy Coaching. The method combined elements of Dr Salmon's medical and Gestalt experience with her study of neuroscience, neuroplasticity, and energy-based approaches.

  4. 2020

    A wider community

    Practitioner training moves online

QEC practitioner training moved online in 2020, allowing the approach to reach a wider international community of practitioners while retaining its one-to-one, conversational format.
